The Winzeler Gear facility in Harwood Heights is the site of Transmission, a permanent installation of eighteen translucent panels which are visible from the inside by daylight and from the outside at night. In January of 2010 the piece was installed with new panels printed directly onto Plexiglass.
Each image was created through a variety of techniques employing modelmaking, photography, digital image manipulation, pyrotechnics and x-ray imaging. By clicking on any of the squares above, you can view a larger version of the image with production notes discussing how it was created.
The title of Transmission refers to the nature of the media which is viewed by the transmission of light rather than reflection. It's also full of gears.
