Big Power in a Little Package

John Stellberg of Coilcraft, a Cary, Illinois firm specializing in the manufacture of small coil components for industry, wanted to express the considerable power handling capacity of this small power inductor. We suggested placing it atop the cut and stripped end of some heavy-duty electrical cable and giving it a halo of electric sparks to convey the idea.

John like the concept and a suitable piece of cable was carefully cut and manicured. The inductor itself, measuring a scant 5 millimeters high, was shot on a copper sheet to capture its reflection in the metal. Films of the cable and the inductor were scanned and merged on the studio workstation to get the right proportionality and create the desired reflections. The background swirl of sparks was pulled from our existing studio stock and positioned to best set off the product. Works-in-progress were emailed periodically for review, and the final file was shipped on disk.

The image is now on Coilcraft's Web site and a film output is used for press release purposes.
