Access gets colorful

Intertec Publishing art director Georgina Alexakis needed a photograph that expressed the idea of "access" via the use of the lock and key metaphor for the Wireless Reviewmedia kit.

Once the collection of new and antique locks and keys were gathered together, the array was lit for maximum color saturation and photographed on 4x5 color transparencies. A second analog alpha channel was then generated in-camera to correctly capture the shape of shadows from a single light source. Both films were scanned and assembled in a large layered composite which allowed each lock and its colorful shadow to be moved independently of the others. This made it possible to accomodate any last-minute changes to copy and layout .
