Glenn Verde of Global Telephony needed an image of a "plugged in" businessman for the cover of the July issue. Working with model Quincy Wong, we first shot images of him holding a dummy cord and plug, as the real phone jack was too small. Once the film had been edited and the best frame selected, the phone jack, plug and cord were shot separately to match angle, lighting and perspective. A hand and arm from another frame were also scanned along with the face and hardware. The image you see here was then composed in an arrangement of twelve layers in Photoshop, allowing tweaking such as the arm movement and the cyan 'glow' of the snaking cord. The final image was delivered on disk and the cover was complete.
