Chicago percussion ensemble Primal Connection came to the studio with only theCD's working title and a lot of enthusiasm. Several approaches were suggested, and all parties finally came to agree on the idea of a sunburst of human hands around a drum head as the visual that best captured the feeling of the music. All seven members of the ensemble spent an evening having their hands photographed in the studio, and the resulting films were edited and scanned along with the image of the weathered drum head.
In the days that followed, the hand images were carefully arranged into concentric radial bursts of color and energy. Calligraphy and type were added to top off a stack of eleven image layers, culminating in the output of an outstanding Fujix digital print used for reproduction.
